BY JEFF LEE, VANCOUVER SUN For the fifth year in a row, Vancouver has been named the most livable city in the world.
![]() Still riding an Olympic high from hosting the Vancouver 2010 Games, the city beat out Melbourne,Australia and Vienna, Austria as the place where people most choose to live.
Two other Canadian cities, Toronto and Calgary, also made the Economist Intelligence Unit’s top ten list at fourth and fifth respectively.
At the other end of the spectrum was Harare, Zimbabwe, once a beautiful city but after three decades of rule under Robert Mugabe is squalid....

According to MLS data for the Simon Fraser University area, specifically UniverCity of Burnaby North, activity on the mountain is heating up! This past week saw 3 new listings which brings the totally inventory level up to 44 active listings. This includes 4 units for sale in the Origin building by Port Development. The average list price for the area is $427,618 or $464.91 per square foot. Great to see that Sellers are confident and are bringing their properties market. I can personally attest to the activity. The British Columbia Real Estate Association (BCREA) reports that Multiple Listing Service® (MLS®) residential sales in the province climbed 7 per cent in January from December 2010, on a seasonally adjusted basis. Compared to January of last year, MLS® residential unit sales were down 10 per cent to 4,137 units. The average MLS® residential price rose 11.5 per cent to $548,183 in January compared to the same month last year.

Ryan and Keith Beedie donated $22 million to Simon Fraser University's business school, marking the university's largest ever donation.
The donation is earmarked for the university's business school, which Ryan attended, and which will now be named the Beedie School of Business, SFU said in a news release.
Ryan earned his bachelor of business in 1991 at SFU, and his master of business administration in 1993 at the University of B.C. According to MLS data for the Simon Fraser University area, specifically UniverCity of Burnaby North, the first week of February saw 5 new listings come to market. This includes 406 9232 University which is a 2 bedroom and 2 bathroom 888 sqft unit located in Novo II which is in immaculate condition and shows very well. Currently there are 45 active listings with the average list price of $424,184 which works out to an average cost per sqft of $463.25. MLS did not record any sales for the past week. The Greater Vancouver housing market remained in balanced market conditions in January, although higher levels of buyer demand were seen in some of the region’s largest communities. The number of properties listed for sale and those sold on the Multiple Listing Service® (MLS®) last month outpaced the 10-year average in both categories for January.

This week saw the second sale of the year to come through MLS in the Simon Fraser University area, specifically UniverCity of Burnaby North.
