A Cause to Celebrate…….

2014 is the 50th anniversary of the establishment of our Foundation in 1964.  Year after year, BC Branch members, volunteers and supporters, like Hafez Panju, have helped the foundation  invest more than $100 million in life-saving kidney research across Canada.  Last year British Columbians donated over $860,000 to support promising kidney research as determined by a panel of Canada’s top kidney researchers.  Without the dedicated and committed support from generous donors like Hafez none of this would be possible.

A few years ago, the BC Branch made a commitment to support all people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) – those on dialysis, those post-transplant and those who have a CKD diagnosis but are not-dialysis dependent.  In 2011, we increased our prevention work by launching a targeted screening program to encourage people at high risk of CKD to know their numbers and, through early awareness encourage them to make the lifestyle changes that might delay or prevent their need for dialysis or a transplant. We also promote public awareness of the need for organ donation and this year, we have made a commitment to increase kidney transplants in BC by 50% over the next five years – because it remains the best available option for improving the quality of life for most people living with kidney disease.

But as anyone who has been personally affected by kidney disease will tell you, improving prevention and treatment methods for kidney disease is still greatly needed.  Steadfast in his dedication to helping The BC Branch of The Kidney Foundation of Canada meet the needs of persons living with kidney disease in Canada, Hafez has listened not only with his ears but with his heart.  Since 2005 he has helped support the needs of kidney patients in BC by generously donating a percentage of his sales commissions to the BC Branch.

As we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Kidney Foundation of Canada, we also celebrate a very special and long standing relationship with Hafez – your continued support as meant so much to so many.

With sincere appreciation
